New footage surfaced today of Rami Malek performing as Freddie Mecury during the filming of Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. The fan shot clip shows Malek and company taking the stage at Live Aid and performing a snippet of Bohemian Rhapsody.
People were impressed with Malek’s transformation into the legendary singer when the picture above leaked last week.
Someone spliced the video with Queen’s actual set from 1985 compared to the leaked footage:
Malek is clearly committed and will probably do a great job, but it’s impossible to compare anyone to Freddie Mercury. He was truly one of a kind. Queen’s Live Aid performance went down as one of the best live performances ever. (If you’re interested, there are multiple documentaries and interviews to be found on the subject here).
The film will cover Queen’s rise from the 1970s through Live Aid, six years before Mercury died of complications from AIDS. The decision to stay away from Mercury’s illness and more salacious parts of his life led Sasha Baron Cohen (originally cast as Mercury) to leave the project. Bohemian Rhapsody is expected to open December 25th, 2018.
