Song of the Day

Throwback Thursday

Don’t Let Go – En Vogue

Long before Fifth Harmony and Little Mix, a group of truly talented females were killing the girl group game. En Vogue ruled the 90s with hits like My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It) and Free Your Mind. Don’t Let Go was released in 1996 as part of the Set It Off soundtrack and became the groups biggest international single. It was also the last song recorded with the four original group members as Dawn Robinson left shortly after. (The song will also bring down the house at karaoke, trust me.) The video features Mekhi Phifer as a player dating all four members:

Gwyneth Paltrow admits she screwed up relationship with Brad Pitt in profanity laced podcast

Gwyneth Paltrow was on the Girlboss podcast this week and showed how edgy and cool she is by repeatedly using the word ‘fuck’.

The actress and GOOP founder admitted she sucks at love saying:

“Oh my God, I’ve fucked up so many relationships. I’m a pretty good friend and sister and daughter, but I am at my potentially most vulnerable and fucked up in the romantic slice of the pie. I fucked that up, Brad!”

Brad referencing Brad Pitt, Paltrow’s boyfriend of three years in the mid 90s.

Gwyneth also addressed critics of GOOP, most recently accused by advertising watchdog groups for ‘deceptive health and disease treatment claims‘:

“I had a few days over the last three months where I was like ‘Fuck it’. It was so deeply unfair and I wish people would do their homework before they are vitriolic about it.”

“Going into a hole is exactly the opposite of the lesson,” she said of what she’s learned from the backlash. “The lesson is to energetically cultivate ‘Fuck you.’”

WHAT??? “Energetically cultivate ‘fuck you'” is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. I think what Paltrow was going for was something like “meditate to where the voices of others, especially critics don’t matter because your soul is in such a positive peaceful place”.

Instead super intelligent (eye roll) Paltrow used her favorite word and limited vocabulary to further her status as a pretentious moron. Brad Pitt dodged a bullet.

Hurricane Harvey Televised Fundraiser planned in LA, NYC and Nashville

A telethon has been planned to raise money for Hurricane Harvey victims. The broadcast is set for September 12th and will air for one hour across multiple networks.

Celebrities will be heavily involved with Jamie Foxx and Hillary Duff hosting from Los Angeles, Reese Witherspoon and Blake Shelton in Nashville and Michael Strahan in New York City.

The show will be produced by Houston rapper Bun B and the crew who planned Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester concert.

Celebrities have shown up in a big way by donating a ton of money this week. Leonardo Dicaprio, Sandra Bullock and Rachel Ray have each donated $1 million dollars to relief efforts. JJ Watt’s relief fund has just surpassed $10 million dollars thanks to generous donations from people around the world.

Song of the Day

Human Nature – Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson would have been 59 years old today. To honor the legend on his birthday, my Song of the Day comes from the King of Pop. It’s hard to choose among a library of so many hits, but Human Nature has always been a personal favorite. It’s simple structure highlights Jackson’s breathy vocals and the sound of the 80s so well. It was a last minute addition to Thriller and reached the top ten. The song has been sampled countless times, but nothing beats the original:

Andy Cohen’s New York City Duplex

Andy Cohen‘s New York City duplex is featured in Elle Decor this month. Cohen combined two apartments on the 17th floor of the Bing & Bing building in Greenwich Village.

The Bravo executive and host recruited designer Eric Hughes to help transform his house into a home.

What’s Going on With The Weeknd?

The Weeknd was supposed to perform at the Video Music Awards on Sunday night where he was nominated for five awards including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Art Direction, Best Editing and Best Direction. Unfortunately, he was a no-show. Maybe he knew what a mess they were going to be and didn’t want to be involved?

The interesting thing is, he didn’t even bother giving a fake excuse. He simply said he “didn’t feel like it”. He’s been touring a lot and is tired.

He also bailed on a private party for Grey Goose vodka two nights before the VMA’s. He let organizers know he wasn’t coming after the party had already started. Organizers released a statement saying:

“Due to unforeseen production issues, tonight’s event has been canceled. That said, Grey Goose and The Weeknd will be back together soon – bigger and better!” The production “issue” was The Weeknd not showing up.

The day of the Grey Goose party he posted this cryptic tweet:

It seems like The Weeknd needs to take a break, he’s clearly burnt out. I wonder if his relationship with Selena Gomez is helping or hurting? We know they’re both rumored drug addicts…Her last few singles haven’t done great because she refuses to actively promote them. So they’re both bailing on responsibilities but still spending plenty of time together.

What do you think is going on with The Weeknd? Tired? Drugs? All of the above?

Whatever it is, he needs to get his act together quick! His tour resumes on September 6th and will go until December.

Celebrities donate to Houston Relief Efforts

By now I’m sure you’ve seen the devastating images of flooding in Houston due to Hurricane Harvey. Peoples homes and businesses are completely underwater.

So far over 3,500 people have been rescued from flooded homes and cars around the Houston area with more frantically waiting for help. With so many people displaced and losing everything, the relief efforts are going to be massive.

Yesterday, Kevin Hart called out some of his celebrity friends to donate $25,000 to The Red Cross for Hurricane Harvey Relief. Hart himself has pledged $50,000:

Chris Brown quickly answered the call pledging $100,000:

VMAS Best and Worst Dressed

MTV aired their annual Video Music Awards last night, but you probably weren’t watching. With the season finale of Game of Thrones airing at the same time, over 30 million viewers set a new record tuning into HBO.

The fashion at the VMA’s matched the content of the show. Hot mess express. There were a few bright spots, but a lot of wtf’s on the red carpet:

Best Dressed

It’s nice to see Lorde ditch the goth and go for something airy and feminine. The minimal makeup and hair is refreshing when paired with a ballgown.

Hailee Steinfeld

Hailee looks young, fresh and fun in this short dress. The hair down/short dress look is perfect for the VMAs.

Heidi Klum

Heidi knows the VMA’s are the perfect place to show a little skin, and she took full advantage. The 44-year-old is definitely body goals.

Renee Bargh

The bright red, tailored jumpsuit is fun and flattering. She looks sleek and put together, but with enough spunk for the VMAs.

Not a fan of the white shoes, but the rest of the look is slick and cool. Cool enough to stay off the worst dressed list and given credit for the shoe risk.

Christina Milian

This is a safe pick but sometimes safe works! The dress highlights her killer body while the glowing skin and wet hair are perfectly on trend for an August awards show.

Olivia Munn

Olivia’s short dress and dark lipstick give her a trendy but polished appearance.

Machine Gun Kelly

The rapper took a big risk with those pants but it actually works. The coordinating look fits really well making all the difference. MGK cleaned up looks handsome and confident.

Teyana Taylor

Teyana payed homage to Janet Jackson by wearing an almost identical outfit to Jackson’s 1995 VMA look. Can you say abs goals?! Wow!

Worst Dressed

Vanessa Hudgens

This dress would be so cute if you got rid of that bottom layer. The sheer fabric over some of her leg is poorly placed and throws off the whole thing.

Noah Cyrus

From the glasses to the hooker boots, Noah looks rough. The VMAs are a place to take fashion risks, but this is just too much.

Sophie Beem

Zendaya looked great in a PJ inspired look at the Teen Choice Awards because of the fabric and fit. This looks cheap and better left at a slumber party.

Nicki Minaj

This just looks uncomfortable. Plus we’ve seen Nicki in pink latex how many times now? It’s time for something new.

Where’s a good tailor when you need one? I’m usually a fan of menswear inspired looks, but this ill fitting ensemble is not working.

Paris Jackson

We’ve seen the sheer dress over visible underwear look from her before. This is so messy looking, it’s hard to know where to look.

Katy Perry

The host of the awards looked like an 80s villain on the red carpet. I don’t know what’s worse? The yellow hair? Earrings? Eye makeup? It’s a shame because the structured dress is kind of cool, but the styling is all wrong.

Demi Lovato

This was so close to a great look for Demi but the tapered pants ruin it. From the knee up, it’s a winner – glamorous and fun. The tapering at the shins is bizarre ans super unflattering.

Arielle Vanderberg

I either want her to put the coat on and button it, or get rid of it all together. Leopard and lingerie can work together, but not at this level. It’s too much.

Bebe Rexha

Haven’t we seen Kylie Jenner do this exact look? Either way, it’s not a flattering design or cut for Rexha.

Jared Leto

Jared is Mr. Gucci at the moment and wore a strange cape thing over a floral shirt and jeans last night. It’s not that it clashes or that it’s too much, it’s just plain ugly. He looks like he’s trying way too hard.

Lil Mama

I like this dress on her, but the bird and bird cage prop is so unnecessary.

Julia Michaels

The dress is SO pretty, but her hair looks unkept and it really kills her moment. Michaels didn’t have to do an updo or smoky eye, but she needed something. Lorde showed how minimal hair and makeup can be paired with a girly ballgown. Even a natural/minimal look takes work and effort. The black section of Michael’s hair just looks like visible roots.
