Song of the day

I’m the One – DJ Khaled ft. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, and Lil Wayne

The perfect Friday song! It’s poppy, happy, and a fun video doesn’t hurt (I live for Chance the Rappers dance moves). I’m the One is the second single off of DJ Khaled’s upcoming album Grateful. Bieber sounds great on the hook and each rapper brings their own vibe to fun verses. The song is already #1 on iTunes. Get ready to here it a lot this summer. Have a great weekend friends:

Buy or Sell

Katy Perry’s new single Bon Appetit ft. Migos

Katy’s much hyped new single dropped today and I must say I’m underwhelmed. It’s not horrible, it’s just blah…been there done that. And the sexual innuendo she’s using has been done to death. I’m also not crazy about someone who is so vocal for gay rights have Migos on her track. I’m sure the song will be a hit because her loyal fan base will buy anything she puts out, but Katy is slippin.

Fresh out the oven? This dish needs to go back in. Or better yet, bake up something different I’ve lost my appetite.

What do you think? Buy or sell?

I’m obviously selling this one.

Fyre Festival is a Nightmare

Ja Rule and Billy McFarland‘s Fyre Festival “set out to provide a once-in-a-lifetime musical experience on the Islands of the Exumas.” That once-in-a-lifetime experience costs guests between $4000 and $250,000 per ticket and had models Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin and Emily Ratajkowsi promoting it for the past few months. Performers included Blink 182, Disclosure, Lil Yachty, and Major Lazer.

The festival hasn’t officially started yet and flights have already been canceled, headliners have dropped out and guests are showing everyone what the ‘luxury VIP experience” really looks like:

Luxury Accomodations:

Those are FEMA disaster relief tents

Gourmet food prepared by Steven Starr:

VIP Customer Service:

This morning the festival was “postponed” with organizers releasing the following statement:

“Due to circumstances out of our control, the physical infrastructure was not in place on time and we are unable to fulfill on that vision safely and enjoyably for our guests. At this time, we are working tirelessly to get flights scheduled and get everyone off of Great Exuma and home safely as quickly as we can. The festival is being postponed until we can further assess if and when we are able to create the high- quality experience we envisioned.”

How were the circumstances out of your control? It’s your event. Seems to me they spent too much on “marketing” and paying models and not enough on producing the actual event.

This is why I NEVER go to festivals. Even the “nice” ones are always a shit show with bad sound and even worse company. I don’t know any music nerds who enjoy them. They’re more for people who like to tell everyone they went to Coachella. I’ll pass, and I’m guessing most of the people who got scammed by Fyre Festival will think twice before dropping that kind of money on a music festival in the future.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Anna Wintour are starting a magazine

WWD is reporting that Gwyneth Paltrow‘s Goop and Anna Wintour‘s Conde Naste are partnering up on a new magazine. The new venture will start with quarterly issues of Goop Magazine and expand from there. The content will stick with Gwyneth’s lifestyle brand with articles surrounding health and fitness, food and recipes, style and design, wellness and beauty, and travel.

“Anna is a powerhouse, and one of the most admirable thought-leaders in media,” Paltrow said. “Collaborating with her and Condé Nast on this multiplatform content partnership, anchored by Goop’s emergence into a physical entity, was an opportunity for us to push our boundaries visually and deliver Goop’s point of view to consumers in new, dynamic ways.”

Wintour commented “I’ve long known Gwyneth to have wonderful taste and vision — but with Goop she has built something remarkable, a thoroughly modern take on how we live today. Goop and Condé Nast are natural partners and I’m excited she’s bringing her point of view to the company. We all look forward to working with her and her team.”

What do you think? Will Goop the magazine be successful? I actually think it will. Paltrow has done a wonderful job with content and branding even if it isn’t your cup of tea. Should be interesting to watch. Many celebrities have produced magazines that didn’t work out. Rosie anyone?

Song of the Day

Throwback Thursday

Virtual Insanity – Jamiroquai

The song was a massive hit for the funky British group led by the insanely talented Jay Kay. The trippy video caused the song break in America helping their third album, Traveling Without Moving sell 11.5 million copies worldwide. I used to get so excited every time this video came on MTV. Over twenty years later, it’s still a cool song and video:

The group just released their eighth studio album Automation to rave reviews in March of this year:

Who Looked Better: Demi or Selena?

Selena Gomez hosted WE Day today in Los Angeles. WE Day encourage young people to get involved in charitable endeavors. The event features musical performances and guest speakers.

Selena kept her 90’s loving fashion look going by wearing a pale blue and white gingham print, off the shoulder ensemble. Demi Lovato decided on a more glamorous look with a sexy gold dress.

Who looked better? Demi or Selena?

I love Selena’s new hair (is EVERYONE getting a lob this season), but the outfit is a little cheesy for my taste. I can’t with pastel shoes. She looks cute and confident though which can make a blah outfit seem great!

On the other hand, Demi looks overly bronzed and sweaty (or maybe it’s too much ‘glow’ makeup). Her dress is fine but nothing special and maybe too much for a day event celebrating volunteerism.

Poppy’s Pick: Selena wins

Divas get your fax machines ready

Aretha Franklin has cemented her status as the Queen of Shade by sending a FAX to the Associated Press to call Dionne Warwick a liar.

Here’s the insane backstory. At Whitney Houston‘s funeral five years ago Dionne Warwick said that Aretha was there and she was Whitney’s godmother. Those statements made at the funeral of Houston seem innocent but after stewing for five years, Aretha thought it was important to set the record straight. Enter the fax machine.

After someone from the AP got her on the phone to confirm the “lengthy fax”, she let them know that she was not at the funeral and also stated that she was asked to be Whitney’s godmother but declined because “she was far too busy to be anyone’s godmother.”

Can you imagine declining to be Whitney’s godmother? Who declines that? I didn’t know it was an option to say no when someone asks. Thank you Aretha, I will now say “I’m far too busy to be anyone’s godmother” if ever asked.

I also don’t get why it was a big deal to let the world know she didn’t go to Whitney Houston’s funeral? I guess she hates Dionne and wants the world to know she’s a liar?

Why Aretha the Diva is the ultimate Queen of Shade:

  1. She waited 5 years to call Warwick out. Don’t ever think you can relax with Aretha. If you got her order wrong at a diner ten years ago, you should be nervous. She’s just waiting to send that fax!
  2. She wants the world to know she didn’t attend someone’s funeral. It seems not only disrespectful to Warwick but also Whitney and the entire Houston family.
  3. She declined being someones godmother then told the world about it after that person died decades later. Her reason? She’s too busy (i.e. important) to be someone’s Godmother. The SHADE!

Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion is Twenty Years Old

Can you believe Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion came out twenty years ago? Nothing makes me feel like an old bitch more than my favorite movies from my teen years turning twenty. I also can’t believe how stacked that cast was with Lisa Kudrow, Mira Sorvino, Janeane Garofalo, Alan Cumming, and Justin Theroux.

This movie is a masterpiece and made me think high school reunions were an event not to miss. I was wrong. High school reunions in real life are totally boring! Movies always make them seem like such a big deal. Sure it’s fun to see who got fat, and what your crush looks like now, but if you have Facebook you already know all the dirt.

The most important thing is to get you a Sandy Frink!

Location – Khalid

This artist from El Paso, Texas is an example of what’s exciting in the music industry today! His sound is fresh and new with perfect vocals. When I first heard Khalid I immediately thought of Musiq Soulchild. He has a similar flow and swag about him, but he’s his own thing. Check out his debut album American Teen. It’s full of hits like Location and my favorite Saved. R&B/Soul music is in good hands with artists like Khalid out there. Kid is a star:

Check out his live performance on Ellen:
